Strong thunderstorms sweep across Northeast Georgia

The threat for strong to severe thunderstorms continues today, mainly for areas along and southeast of I-85. Storms could produce gusty winds, locally heavy rainfall, and a possible brief tornado, the National Weather Service says.

A strong thunderstorm passed through extreme Northeast Georgia shortly after 8 a.m. Monday. In addition to torrential rain, the storm carried wind gusts of up to 50 mph and cloud-to-ground lightning.

Georgia’s stormy weather is part of a multi-day severe thunderstorm threat that began Monday in Texas and southern Oklahoma. The storm system spawned deadly tornadoes, including one in New Orleans Tuesday night.
