The next full moon of 2023 is tonight!
Known as the Hunter’s Moon, the next full moon will rise just after sunset tonight. The name comes from the beginnings of the fall hunting season when, historically, indigenous peoples would begin stocking up on meat for the winter.
A partial lunar eclipse will accompany this full moon on the heels of the solar eclipse two weeks ago. Unfortunately, the eclipse won’t be visible from North Georgia, although the extreme eastern parts of New York, Maine, and North Carolina will see a small part of it.
You can check out this full moon rising in the east just after sundown tonight. It will be accompanied by Jupiter shining brightly just beneath it. You can find Saturn high overhead to the south as well around 8 p.m.
