A Norfolk, Virginia, man was jailed Sunday after leading a Georgia state trooper on a high-speed chase in Stephens County, officials say.

Around 2:55 p.m. on September 26, the trooper attempted to stop a Ford Bronco for speeding on GA 17 South/Toccoa Bypass near Currahee Lane. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the driver, later identified as Dashiell Caffee, was traveling 85 mph in a 55 mph zone.

“The Ford Bronco failed to yield and attempted to flee, reaching speeds over 100 mph,” says GSP Post 7 Commander Donnie Sadler. He says after Caffee “blew a red light” at the intersection of GA 17 and GA 145, the trooper performed a successful PIT maneuver that ended the pursuit after approximately 4.3 miles near Memorial Drive.

After the initial PIT, the trooper’s vehicle struck a guardrail, damaging the right side of the patrol car.

The trooper took the 30-year-old Caffee into custody without further incident and charged him with felony fleeing, driving while revoked and reckless driving.

“Mr. Caffee was booked into Stephens County Detention. Later this afternoon [Sunday], he was transported to Stephens County Hospital, treated for minor complaints, and released back into custody,” says Sadler.

The trooper also had minor complaints but was not transported, Sadler says.
